Bon Papillon is a new Gallery ~ Café in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic art district.

With a shared background in the catering industry combined with a love of art, it always made sense to combine the two when we decided that it was time to start our own business. We aimed to create a space with the relaxed ambiance of a favourite local coffee shop, which also exhibits some beautiful and thought provoking work from contemporary artists and makers. Our personal experience and involvement mean that all the artists are individually chosen by us and all the food freshly made on the premises from scratch.

We are also now offering an ‘artisan’ framing service; taking selected bare wood mouldings and building colour and finish to your specifications. Layering paint, stain, wax and polish, with the option of gilding, stencilling and other decorative effects, an individual frame can be created to perfectly complement each work of art. Frames will also be available to buy ‘off the peg’ to display cards, prints and keepsakes.

The gallery shows work from a selection of artists and makers, with changing exhibits in the cafe area and gallery room.

We are open from 9am - 5.30pm every day except Tuesday, and seven days throughout August. Ingrid is now using the space for painting and will be exhibiting alongside the other artists, as well as continuing work on the mural decorating the front of the cafe servery.

Stuart's framing workshop is at the rear of the gallery and we take care not to let his industry disturb the serious cake eating in the cafe! 
He is happy to quote on any job, small or large, including mounting and re-framing pieces. All the work is carried out by hand on the premises, using 'bare-faced' wood mouldings which are painted, waxed and polished to give a durable and unique finish to your specifications.
